What is Washi ?? ( 2 )2013.12.13

One of my friends in US told me some people say buying Japanese paper ended up to be complicated. .... "Why ?" I asked. " The papers we receive can be different from their samples, and the quality cannot be the same, rather very bad. "  So it seems that some people avoid to buy Japanese paper...........

I thought I should tell this to Echizen paper artisans because they always tend to blame this bad economical situation for not selling well. I told them that we should think about the real reason for that not asking for an excuse in recession.

" Maybe we just don't do it right." I said. They were all surprised to hear the story.. But then some of them said, " Were they really Japanese paper ?? "

He continued saying that sometimes Chinese papers were sold as Japanese paper in abroad. Well, I've also seen the case in Europe. But is that everything ?

Since ` Washi ` is now being used by anyone, which is not good because we cannot know who should be responsible for the quality for customers, we, Echizen Washi people, have to think about what we should do or what we can do for the future.

( at a studio in US, `Japanese paper` sold in a bad condition. )
