Sydney and Andrew Visiting Echizen2014.09.29
I met them in the Netherlands in 2011 when I started my research about Rembrandt using Japanese paper for his etching. We've been in touch since then, and finally they could make it to visit me here in the village ! I was so excited to welcome them at my home.
We only had twenty-four hours to spend together here, but I enjoyed myself a lot talking, visiting studios, visiting other places here .... etc.
They were also interested in squashed paper, so we visited Yamaguchi Papermaking Studio.
At Heizaburo Iwano, there was another tour. One of the members had his own collection of old washi, and I was very impresssed with Uchigumo paper used as a cover for a book.
Andrew and Sydney used to work for British Museum, UK, but they started to work independently in a new place, the Netherlands. That was nine years ago. I was so impressed with their story because I had been feeling it was very difficult to be independent here. But hearing their story made me think that maybe this can be my own way too.
What am I struggling with ?
No one cares.
