Origami with My Chinese Students ( 2 )2013.12.09

Folding ` cranes` is very typical for origami in Japan.  So I showed them how to make. After trying for a while, they started saying ` We also have the same one. `

Well, this is why lots of Westerners misunderstand China and Japan. Japanese culture is, of course, based on Chinese influence, but we are very different. Westerners always say ` We know you are different. ` But I always think they don't really realize it.

Every time I tell my Chinese students that Japanese and Chinese are different, they look very sad or unhappy. But this is not the matter which is good or bad. I always hope we can accept the differences and respect each other.

( the second photo : They showed me how they make cranes in China whereas the Japanese one is on the first photo. )
