Washi that Rembrandt Used (1)2012.09.20

photo01

My studies about Rembrandt has been got stuck for a long time since last year when I went to the Netherlands.....  But I've been thinking all the time how I can show what he used was from Echizen Washi made of gampi.

I love history and this story is about 17th century... wow... paper was shipped from Nagasaki, Japan, to the Dutch through VOC, shipping company via Indonesia.

At that time Japan started closing its every port but Nagasaki and also Japan didn't want to have a trading with Christian contries at that time, so China and the Netherlands were the only country that they could have a trade with Japan.

( photo; a work of Rembrandt. I was allowed to check the paper last year in the Netherlands. )
