How Much Mochi We Have ! 2014.01.06

` Mochi ` , or rice cake ( !? official translation... but I don't think it's a suitable word !) , is our main dish for New Year. I heard that people in Fukui have the most mochi in Japan. It's not surprising to me, because there are many mochi shops and some people also make their own here before New Year. And I think the one made in Fukui very delicious !

There are some interesting studies about mochi in Japan. How you eat and what kind of shape it is are all different by the areas.

Mochi in Fukui is round one, not square. And we eat it in miso soup with some vegetable whereas in Tokyo they eat it with chiken, vegetables in soup based on soy sauce. Usually mothers keep their taste in the family, so if you see the different one, you maybe need to ask their family background !

Isn't it interesting ??

( the one in photo is in red beans soup made by my friend, Kiyoko-san 71. )
